Yesterday UNStudio and Grigorjev & Partners LLC signed the contract with the client, Petersburg City LLC, for the new Dance Palace in the historic centre of St. Petersburg, following the success of the design competition in July last year. The project is a 24,000 m2 dance theatre, housing The Eifman Ballet, headed by the prolific choreographer Boris Eifman. The Dance Palace forms part of the European Embankment city quarter master plan for a new urban square in St. Petersburg.

The Dance Palace in St. Petersburg embraces the rich history of the world renowned Russian Modern Ballet within the historic setting of St. Petersburg. The signing of the contract is a milestone for the international and St. Petersburg teams. According to Ben van Berkel, “The ambition of the city of St. Petersburg and of our client to proceed with this project is a wonderful example of perseverance. To set up a team with international specialists alongside specialists from St. Petersburg has been quite a challenge, particularly as - alongside all the technical challenges - we have to address the challenges of affordability and sustainability, or what I like to call attainability.” 
  
UNStudio has extensive experience in theatre design, with recently completed projects including the Theatre Agora in Lelystad (Netherlands) and the MUMUTH Music Theatre in Graz (Austria). UNStudio is also currently designing a new theatre for Spijkenisse in the Netherlands.

THE CHALLENGE

Whether it is despite or thanks to Miami’s vertiginous development, it never found its geographical center and urban gravitational center. Therefore Miami is composed of strips, avenues, suburbs and a small and week “business center” which give incidence to verticality, rather than the enjoyment of the horizontal urban space coincident with the Atlantic horizon. Miami is bridges and viaducts, highways and Malls, small neighborhoods adjacent to private housings. As Los Angeles urban model, Miami has never encountered a functional civic space within its self-proclaimed center, which allows people to enjoy the proper “place spirit”.

For this reason, ARQUITECTUM and A Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Miami) have decided to choose a troubled spot with huge potential, where the future of the human urban space will be debated, with a pedestrian scale which will allow gathering, enjoying shadows and living as any other city in the world; returning the public space its superiority over private and closed space such as Shopping Centers.

For this purpose, a basic and important program has been proposed, which includes a Catholic Cathedral, high cost living housing (lofts), a Civic Center, a small Contemporary Architecture Museum, as well as several plazas that reconfigure the new Center from within, leading the public open space to become the main object of the project.

Das Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur schreibt für das Jahr 2010 die neu eingerichteten "Startstipendien 2010" für den künstlerischen Nachwuchs aus

Unter dem Titel „Startstipendien 2010“ schreibt das Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur 10 START-Stipendien für Architektur und Design aus.

Die Startstipendien stellen eine Anerkennung und Förderung für das Schaffen junger Künstlerinnen und Künstler dar. Sie sollen die Umsetzung eines künstlerischen Vorhabens und den Einstieg in die österreichische und internationale Kunstszene erleichtern. Die Stipendien haben eine Laufzeit von 6 Monaten und sind mit je € 6.600,-- dotiert. Das Vorhaben muss 2010 begonnen werden. Eine Bewerbung ist nur in einer der ausgeschriebenen Sparten möglich.

Die museale Wohnung in der Rauchfangkehrergasse lässt ein Stück Architekturgeschichte Wiens der Zwischenkriegszeit hautnah erleben.

Wien (OTS) -    In einer der 33 ArbeiterInnenwohnungen des Gemeindebaus Rauchfangkehrergasse 26 im 15. Wiener Bezirk ist sehr viel ihrer ursprünglichen Ausstattung seit der Errichtung im Jahr 1925 erhalten geblieben. In den vergangenen sieben Jahren wurde diese von "Zeit!Raum - Verein für soziokulturelle Arbeit", der die Wohnung verwaltet, unter der wissenschaftlichen Leitung des Vereins für Geschichte der Arbeiterbewegung aufwändig saniert und konserviert. Dieses architektonische Juwel wurde heute, Mittwoch, als Wohnungsmuseum von Wohnbaustadtrat Vizebürgermeister Dr. Michael Ludwig, Bezirksvorsteher Gerhard Zatlokal und Reinhold Eckhardt, Geschäftsführer von "Zeit!Raum", eröffnet.
